Artist Donates Limited Prints DELTA Ministries International is an exceptional missions organization because of the value it places on the local church. When I saw its video about its Haitian relief efforts, I got tears in my eyes. Since I am still recovering from Lyme disease, and can’t go myself, I thought donating my art could be a way for me to help.  To view and order prints, click here

  • Haiti July Trips Wrap-up

By Tory Ruark From July 9-25, two teams were working in Haiti at Trousable Baptist Church. I lead the first team of individuals from all over the US and the second team was from First Baptist Church in Fort Collins. As you probably have read, we spent a lot of time moving rubble so that the church building could be finished. Upon our arrival, they had just started putting walls up. By the time we left the walls were up and the roof was going on. By the time the group from Fort Collins left the roof was finished, the electricity was wired (though not connected to city power yet), and the water cistern was begun. There is still some finish work to do, but the church is in meeting condition! They now have a place to meet that is out of the sun and protected from the rain! The…

The size and breadth of the destruction is staggering.  The death toll from the earthquake is now feared to reach to 200,000 and around 1.5 million people were rendered homeless by the earthquake.  When you look at the immensity of it all, it is easy to wonder where to start or how you can make a difference, but you can. Churches in America have an opportunity to partner long-term with churches in the affected areas by providing prayer, financial support, and basic necessities and by sending church teams.

Missions Door and DELTA Ministries International have developed a strategy and challenge for local churches and individuals to commit to serve in Haiti, now, and in the years ahead. Our goal is to recruit as many volunteers and church teams as possible through 2010. The first wave of teams will be demolishing, cleaning, and rebuilding churches, ministry centers, and homes destroyed in the earthquake, while also participating in evangelism, and reaching the community.

There are two ways to participate:

1. As a Team - Organize a customized team from your church/organization where the dates of service are your choice

A 10 day trip costs $800* plus airfare per person
(*A minimum $4000 for project funds is additional)fieldvideos

  • Missions Door, Denver, CO – Has had an effective ministry in Haiti for many years, capably led by indigenous Haitian missionaries.  Missions Door will establish and oversee the long-term field strategy in Haiti, which includes five strategies below.  www.missionsdoor.org
  • Trinity Hope, Lebanon, TN - Trinity/Hope provides a hot, nutritious daily meal to children, teachers and cooks in schools in Haiti, using an established and successful feeding program.  www.trinityhope.org
  • Window of Hope, Anthem, AZ - Non-profit Christian charity that feeds the hungry, clothes the naked and treats the sick and sponsors free medical clinics around the world.  www.windowofhope.org
  • WorldVenture, Littleton, CO – Committing support through their Samaritan Fund.  www.worldventure.com
DELTA Ministries has launched a relief and recovery strategy similar to the relief and recovery efforts of Hurricane Katrina.  DELTA has hundreds of requests to mobilize volunteers to help.  Through our partners, there are five initiatives that will become our primary efforts in Haiti.  DELTA will mobilize churches to support these initiatives with volunteers and funding and encourage long-term partnerships:

Clinics -- We have one clinic, opened only days ago and seeing about 150 patients per day.  There are few on staff and supplies are running out.  We will be able to open as many as four more clinics at locations already being considered, and their needs will include medical personnel, support personnel, equipment and medical supplies.

Pastoral Care -- We are partnering with a pastor who is the president of a key Haitian pastoral association that includes over 750 evangelical churches.  Our role will be to come alongside pastors and their families and help them become stable so they can assist those in their congregations.  Our role will also include post-trauma and crisis counseling, repairing or rebuilding churches, and helping people in the congregations repair or rebuild their homes.

Schools and Orphanages -- The range of opportunities is vast and will be ongoing.  Before the earthquake Trinity Hope was feeding over 10,000 children a day.  The schools and orphanages need help in repairing and rebuilding, and there is much to do in ministry to the kids, the staff, and others.

Jimani -- Just on the Dominican side of the border is a town called Jimani.  Before the earthquake, it was a healthy town with normal issues.  Since the quake, the city's borders have begun to swell as refugees pour in.  Our partners are working to create a beachhead for ministry there.  The needs are vast and range from first-aid, to digging latrines, to food service, and so much more.

Villages -- Our partners currently have seven acres where they will create a new community and all that it  needs.  This was the plan before the quake.  Now, our partners want to continue with this new village concept, but are looking to us to help them create not one, but possibly as many as seven new communities.

What do we do when tragedy strikes? How can we help those in need? First and foremost we can pray for those involved. Second, we can give of our time, money, and skills.

How is God calling you to be a part of His plan?

  • Prayer - Commit to pray daily for those who have lost loved ones, those injured and in need of care and those in need of basic supplies.  Pray also for God to move His Church to show His love practically with aid and verbally by sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

  • Going - If your church wants to send a team or you want to be a part of a team fill out our online registration form
  • Giving - Give to help mobilize Haiti Relief and Recovery Teams.
